Who we are
Russell Hiatt officially started Hiatt Woodworks and Construction in the spring of 2023, but the roots of the company began long before that. After graduating college with a degree in Math Education at Brigham Young University, Russell and his wife Melissa moved to a small town in southern Virginia to teach at the county high school. Russell used his free time to learn carpenter skills, and he held on to a dream for a future company called Hiatt Woodworks and Design.
After three years of teaching and furniture building, Russell decided to focus on construction full-time. He was accepted into the Construction Engineering bachelor’s program at University of Utah, and he and Melissa moved their small family west to go back to school.
The founding principles of Hiatt Woodworks and Construction are simple - provide high-quality work and expertise while maintaining a strong family foundation with clients. We work with the client through the entire construction process, from design to final inspection.
We maintain good relationships with our subcontractors to ensure that our quality standards are met. We will work with you to find creative solutions to fit your specific needs. We do not take lightly the process of transforming a house into a home, and we will take care that the final outcome is worthy of the dream that started it all!
At this time, Russell and Melissa also made the decision to serve their country. Russell enlisted in the United States Army. They put school on hold while he spent most of the year in training.
Russell attended classes at the University of Utah for a year and a half, earning a spot on the Dean’s list every semester, before an internship offered him a salaried position as a project manager.
Russell successfully managed several construction projects for the company. ultimately leading his own team of project managers. Still, the dream of owning his own company and getting back to his love of carpentry continued to itch in the back of his mind. It was time, and Hiatt Woodworks and Construction was born.
